From a small child until relatively recently, I feared insects that fly at me and in-particular moths and may bugs. However through studying these beautiful creatures; their pattern and perfectly formed miniature bodies, I have seen real beauty that is beyond the ability to replicate and I have learn’t not to fear but to appreciate and protect. I have gained an understanding of these creatures and learn’t to love what I fear. Perhaps through a kind of ‘Flooding Therapy’ I can not only face my fears, but also actually enjoy what previously caused me distress.
In my home I installed a ‘Infestation’ which created both delight and disgust in equal measure.
Perhaps in a world that is fractured through ignorance and intolerance, we all need to look closer at ourselves and the things that we fear in order to understand and appreciate.
